In November, Act 2 students toured Propstar, an almost entirely female props shop right in midtown Manhattan! The owner of the shop lead students on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour.

On May 20th, students from the Academy for Careers in Television and Film toured Steiner Studios. Located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Steiner Studios is a 580,000 square foot Hollywood-style production and support facility. The studio tour was led by Local 52 member Jenny Kane.

On April 30th, students from Repertory Company High School for the Arts attended a performance of What the Constitution Means to Me. The performance was followed by a career conversation with female backstage crew, including Open Stage Project Program Director Arabella Powell, the Production Stage Manager for the play.

In April, Open Stage Project hosted the first-ever Female Union Panel to teach young women the benefits and requirements of theater and film unions.  This panel  brought together professional women in IATSE and AFM, industry professionals, and high school women.

On March 20th, students from Fordham High School for the Arts attended a performance of Disney's Frozen on Broadway. The performance was followed by a career Q & A with backstage crew members from the audio, stage management, and wardrobe departments.

Open Stage Project was featured as one of five Changemakers at Women's Day on Broadway. The founder of Open Stage Project, Elsa Ward, was joined on stage by Repertory Company High School for Theatre Arts student Nilsa Fitts.

February 7th, 2019

 

Open Stage Project toured Hudson Scenic with students from Laguardia High School. Students learned the process of building a set and saw behind-the-scenes work on pieces for Hadestown and Oklahoma!. The tour was led by Carrie, the Production Manager.
